I don't care for Fusion360 in principle (proprietary, cloud-tied, requires I boot a Windows box etc.), but its interface is super polished and easy to pick up, and it seems to have the only CAM suite under $4000 that actually works with less effort than programming the part yourself with the model as reference, so I end up using it often. At least with Heeks I finished a couple projects around the awkward and janky, FreeCAD didn't get that far. The path workbench in particular was utterly unusable, in a literal most-actions-crash sense. I found the FreeCAD interface extremely awkward, there were so many incomplete features where trying to do things in obvious ways triggered crash bugs that I eventually gave up, especially since a few of the crash bugs would eat files. I prefer FOSS tools and have a CNC router, so I did a round with Heeks CAD/CAM, which was bad but could more or less be made to work, and a round of with FreeCAD and its Path workbench not long after 0.16 came out, which was. The new TechDraw workbench aims to replace the Drawing workbench, and already provides more features than the old Drawing workbench The Sketcher now supports B-spline creation with many ways to control curves and display curve information. The new Addon manager available from the Tools menu (which was previously available as the addons installer macro) makes installing and updating add-on modules and macros much easier and standardized across Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. New tools to create datum (reference) geometry such as points, axes and planes make PartDesign a lot more versatile. A new Body container now holds a chain of features and lifts the requirement of mapping sketches to planar faces.

The PartDesign workbench has been completely overhauled. New additional modules were also developed by the community. For comparison, this is more than three times the work done between v0.16 and 0.15! Most existing workbenches benefited from improvements, and two completely new workbenches were added. Nearly 6,700 revisions were added to FreeCAD's source code. It's been almost 2 years since the previous 0.16 release, but the FreeCAD team didn't stay idle during that time.
